In 1892 Alden B. Spooner, Jr. built a ranch house overlooking the Pacific ocean. The Pecho Ranch and Cattle Company spread over 8,000 acres. The Spooners planted grain and field crops, ran a dairy and raised beef cattle, and hogs. In 1962 the Spooner Ranch House became a visitor center showing how the Pecho Ranch looked in its heyday as well as displays of the local wildlife, marine and plant life. The Hind Foundation has provided a $138,000 grant to help repair and preserve the home to continue to serve as an important center of information for the Montana State Park.
