In 2010 and 2011, the Hind Foundation granted $2,500 to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum (SLORRM) to promote two events: the Central Coast Railroad Festival and the Rail Celebration at the Freight House.
The Central Coast Railroad Festival features events and activities at rail-related locations throughout San Luis Obispo County for one weekend each year. Its mission is to celebrate and highlight local rail history and promote rail's future by providing modeling, rides, exhibits, ceremonies, seminars, and special programs. Numerous nonprofit railroad, historical and educational organizations are featured during the Festival.
The Rail Celebration at the Freight House featured various rail-related displays, a public art dedication, Golden Spike ceremony, history walks, and lectures around the Freight House area.
