New Historical Home for a Nonprofit
For Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County
In 2010, the Hind Foundation granted $854,141 to the Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County (CFSLOC) to fund the purchase of the Foundation’s new historic home located at 550 Dana Street in San Luis Obispo, CA. The Barneberg House is a beautiful 100-year-old residence originally built in 1914 for a local bank owner, John Barneberg. In the 1970s the Duenow family acquired the residence and converted it into an office building in the early 1990s. As the building’s third owner, the CFSLOC's plan is to preserve the building and make it available to nonprofits and community groups. The 4,300 sf building has plenty of room to house appropriate nonprofits for the first few years and accommodate CFSLOC's future growth. In only 12 years, the Community Foundation has grown its endowment to $26 million, and granted over $15 million to the community through its 200 funds and scholarships.
Paying it Forward
Since the SLOCCF supports a wide range of local nonprofits in San Luis Obispo County, their physical presence in the County ensures that nonprofits and the Central County community have the resources they need to thrive.
