Recovery Tank & Medical Equipment
For Pacific Wildlife Care
In 2008, the Hind Foundation granted $11,000 to Pacific Wildlife Care (PWC) to fund a recovery tank and medical equipment. Some of the equipment included microscopes, telescopes, exam lights, IV stand and other necessary medical supplies. The recovery tank is needed to treat wildlife that has been rescued from hot waters. The PWC uses the tank to reintroduce the wildlife into their natural colder water.
• Cost Savings
With the purchase of lab equipment the PWC saves on Veterinarian and labs costs and are able to get immediate results from tests run which enables them to address the rehabilitation more quickly.
• Primary Care Designation
The installation of the recovery tank helped established PWC as an Oiled Wildlife Care Network (OWCN) primary care facilities throughout the state. A primary care facility can rehabilitate pelagic birds where 2nd care facilities can only stabilize birds for transport to primary care facilities. This designation is a huge accomplishment because there are only 12 facilities like PWC throughout the state.
