In 2010, after the preparation of a state and national landmark application process uncovered extensive damage that required major restoration and preservation, the Hind Foundation granted $133,000 to Santa Barbara Legacy Foundation to complete the restoration of the iconic Spirit of the Ocean Sculpture & Fountain at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. One of the most critical public art projects on the Central Coast, the statue is hewn of Coldwater sandstone from the quarry in Refugio Canyon, Santa Barbara. Completed in 1927 by the Venetian-trained sculptor Ettore Cadorin, the world-famous Spirit of the Ocean sculpture and fountain had aged since it was firsts construction and was in much need of restoration. The grant, closed the gap on the primary fundraising effort so that the restoration project could continue.
